ITU Informatics Institute faculty member Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıçakçı has added a valuable book to existing Turkish resources by translating the book titled 'Siber Güvenliğe Giriş - Bilgisayar Güvenliği ve İnternet - Araçlar ve Mücevherler', which is a very important work in its field. The related book was published by Palme Publishing House.

Who is Prof. Dr. Kemal Bıçakçı?

Kemal Bıçakcı is currently a full professor in Informatics Institute at Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey. He has previously worked in Computer Enginering department, TOBB University of Economics and Technology. He is also the co-founder of Securify, a start-up company founded in 2016, working on cyber security technologies and focused on behavioral biometrics.

He has been teaching graduate and undergraduate level courses in Information Security, Cryptography, Computer Networks and other topics for more than 15 years. He has obtained his PhD degree from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey in 2003. Between 2004 and 2006, he was a postdoc researcher in Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam working with Prof. Tanenbaum in EU FP6 project named SecurE-Justice. His previous research experience includes several NSF funded security projects in which he participated as a research assistant during his MS studies in University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. He has directed / has been directing 6 research projects on security funded by Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Institute (TUBITAK).
Beginning with a BS graduation project in Hacettepe University, Dr. Bicakci now has over 25 years research experience on security and related topics. His current research interests include information security, applied cryptography, human-computer interaction and usability. He has co-authored 20+ international journal and 30+ conference papers. His papers are highly cited (h-index: 22, 1/20/2019, Google Scholar). He serves in the Editorial Board of Computer Standards and Interfaces (Elsevier) journal.

ITU Informatics Institute provides graduate-level education and research in applied informatics, computer sciences, computational science and engineering, communication systems under the following programs.

Faculty members and students conduct research supported by national and international organızatıons in the fields of electromagnetic fields, communication systems/regulations, computational materials design, computational chemistry/biology, cryptography, signal/data processing/visualization, big data management, climate and ocean sciences, 

  • The paper titled “Non-Invasive Complete Hemodynamic Model to Investigate the Effect of Multi-Stenosis in Patient-Specific Coronary Arteries”, jointly prepared by research assistants Hacer Duzman and E. Cenk Ersan, andProf. Dr. M. Serdar Çelebi from the Computational Science and Engineering Program, has been awarded the Best Paper Award at the ESM’25. (22-24 Oct. 2025 Belgium)
  • Hacer Duzman and Muhammed Enis Şen, PhD students of Computational Science and Engineering Program, received awards in the "5 Minute Thesis Competition" organized at the "Başarım 2024 8th National High Performance Computing Conference".

There is also a High Performance Computing Laboratory established with the support of the State Planning Organization within the Institute.
